Q.1. I was wondering, when designing a sitemap, do you need to list every single page of the site on the sitemap?
Q.2. Or can you just list the main catagories page for each section in the sitemap?
Q.3. Also, i have read that you should only link to the sitemap from your homepage in order to distribute more of the pr to your homepage. What's your opinion? Should this be done?

No, there is no need to list every single page on the sitemap. You can list the main categories only.
But it is good if you link to every page instead of linking homepage with the sitemap only coz that will make easier for the visitor to access each and every page from anywhere in the site.
