Hey,

I have heard that if you have your sites hosted in the UK, that you will have a good chance of showing up when someone from the UK searches on Yahoo or Google... is this true?

I want to show up for UK searchers, and I am hoping this is all it takes.

All the Best,

You get a better chance of making it into top 10, but there are many other parameters and position of the site is likely not to be the most important.

Hey,

Thanks for the response... not sure if I totally understand though.

I just came back to say that the domains I plan on using are .info domains on a UK host. So they won't be .co.uk domains.

All the Best,

What do you mean - when someone searches from the UK on Google? There are two important differentiations - someone in UK going to google.com and doing a web search, or someone doing a "pages from the UK search". I've done quite a bit of research on this (and most of the info has been found from this site!) but what I seem to find is that if you want to turn up in a "pages from the UK search" two important factors are the geolocation of the ip address and the url - .co.uk or .info etc. If you have a UK host and a .co.uk domain you should (nothing guaranteed though!) come up under UK searches. If you only meet one of the criteria, so for example your host might be in the states, you may still show in UK searches.. but you may not. Have heard stories from both sides. Likewise with the domain name. How much importance is attached to each of the criteria... well good luck in whoever wants to try and answer that!

I'm going to risk a host in the states due to the massive price difference.. but since i have a .co.uk domain i hope it won't hurt me... ha. love risks!
