No, for the general rank it won't matter.
*but* be aware that if you want to show up in the 'pages from nz' portion of google.co.nz then you will need to either have a .nz domain name or host on an NZ IP address!
If you have a NZ-flavoured site then you do want to get in those SERPs

There have been several recent posts on SEO forums regarding Google's new "Trust Rank" methodology. If you are hosted on a network that has has it's mailserver blacklisted recently for e-mail Spam, or if you're on the same co-located IP# as a known SE Spammer, there is a chance that your site will be less "trusted" by Google than one hosted with a reputable network.

Also under debate is whether or not the length and consistency of your Domain Name Registration will affect how your site is "Trusted"... it makes sense that a Domain / web site that has recently changed hands or one that was registered only last month would be more likely to be a Spam-a-copia Link Farm than a site that has been on the 'Net for years.

Just my $0.02 on hosting and "Trust" -- another concern, of course, is uptime. If your site is not answering HTTP requests when the spiders come through to check it, you will obviously not be getting indexed.

Best advice I’ve heard all day. I used to host on one of those ‘best deal in town’ hosting companies. A month didn’t go by when my server wasn’t off line.
