Hi,

Can you please tell me if writing ebooks and advertising them or listing them on related sites that are ranking well in the search engines is a good idea?

Regards

It's not so much a case of getting the ebook to rank well, it's all amout getting the site that markets the ebook to rank well. Get links. As many as possible from sites on a similar topic and theme. Not sites that are in competition, but sites that are related and your ebook and would be of use to their users.

You can also try and list your ebook sales site in as many directories as possible, as well as niche subject directories on your topic.

Advertising your e-book on a site that ranks well may be a good idea if the traffic is really geared to what you are offering and that the traffic to these sites is real traffic and not some inflated garbage generated by a script.

Also, you need to know where your ad will appear on the page and on what page/pages. Check to see if you can get a presell page with it. Lastly, even if these sites are related to yours, are these visitors predominately looking for 'free information on widgets'? If so, you might have a hard time converting these visitors into sales unless you offer something for free or part of your e-book for free to begin with.
