No keywords showing up in search strings

Why is no one finding us on our keywords?

Our site has been up for five months now and has over 500 files. It is information rich, has a yahoo and (albeit a regional category) a Dmoz listing.

We only get around 50 visits a day and only a handful of search strings are listed and are rather obscure. As far as i can tell we are using the title and H1 tags appropriately for our selected keywords.

Is this just a question of time or are we doing something fundamentally wrong?

Sounds like you have a pretty decent site there and should have more traffic than just that. Yet if you are talking about Google, it can be a typical case of the supposed "Sandbox" penalty that won't rank new sites for up to 6+ months or so.

It is hard to tell without a specific url. Feel free to message it to me and i'll do my best to give you anything obvious that may be hurting.

i think there are more possibilities than the newbie sandbox

our site has been up for 6 years, has about 2000 pages, and since late march has been disappearing.

even searching for our full biz name which is on every page doesn't bring us up sooner than #21 or so

I emailed google- either we're being penalized, or their engineers are hard at work in a never-ending quest to degrade search results quality.
