I have recently purchased a domain name and set up a small website on it - I dont normally care too much about SEO because I mainly rely on stealing users from related websites (or to reprase it "assisting users in locating the relevant content from an alternative source") and word of mouth advertising (the best type of advertising if you ask me - and free as well), but this perticular domain name just happens to be for a Web Based MSN Messenger client (simmilar to the official webmessenger.msn.com one, just my own one)

Its not really finished yet (and just has an initial alpha version of the software on it) however I noticed that for a few searches on the MSN Search engine I was actually appearing above the official MSN Service! (which really amazed me - their algo's must be messed up)

I have no real benefit to getting the rankings on search engines (in fact it just puts extra load on my server so could cause problems if it gets too big) however I do like the thought of outranking MSN on the MSN search engine and wondered if anybody would be able to give me a few tips to make it easier

I dont expect to be able to outrank them on the common keywords but the fact that without any opitmisation at all I outrank them on some keywords shows the value of the domain name (I was extremely suprised to see this domain name hadn't been taken!)

I'm not sure about posting the URL of the site here (and really the current site+service is just a temporary thing anyway and wont be staying there for long) but no doubt you could find it if you looked on MSN Search for a client to use MSN from Anywhere (ok, if thats too obvious then an admin can edit my post and remove it :-) but you can see what i mean about it being a great domain name for it!)

Anyone able to give me a few basic tips to follow while making the new site? as I said i dont really care too much about the SEO for getting users from google etc as its only a small thing for a few users but I do want to outrank the official MSN client on MSN Search for as many keywords as possible :-D
