Best way to learn SEO?

Hi,

This is my first post here. I am learning SEO since some months back by observing my web sites and reading articles. I have also studied another site about SEO but realized it is a jungle of information. My plan is to get a job in this field (together with web design) and I wonder if you know a good place to study SEO. Like some tutorials or something.

Thanks.

Not to state the obvious, but this is the single-best forum for reading about SEO on an ongoing basis. But it might take months to get a great sense of what to pay attention to and what to ignore.

Meanwwhile, maybe someone can recommend a primer for you.

Just as diamondgrl said. This is the best forum to start off with. Not to forget about myself too. I started it off from here. Just keep reading the posts.

Also do a search for whitepapers related to common SEO terms, if that would help.

And yes, spend time on those SE's they sure do provide some pointers to begin with.

Last but most important. Get a website to experiment with. It would be better off to go in with a freeserver or if you can afford a domain name and web host, by all means, set up a site where you can work on.

Hope this helps.

Thanks. I am happy having realized that probably this is a good place to learn about SEO.

I have three sites of my own and I learned a lot by observing them.

Probably I will encounter you again, asking some questions.

Biggest piece of advice - besides reading here regularly - is to learn how the engines work and not just how to beat them "for the moment".

Something I think is interesting happened.

I regularly search my name to see what happens to my site on the SERPs and these postings in this forum is already showing up both at Google and Yahoo and on Google it is ranking better than my own site (not my redirection site), Grrr!

And this only some hours after it was posted - incredible.

I agree this is a great forum for learning just about anything web related. If you are looking for something specific, try posting or searching here.

Don't forget to read your stats....... then read them again!
That is where you will find out what is working for each site. You will also get some interesting surprises there ;)

>> Like some tutorials or something.

bottom line, if there were any such tutorials they would be out of date as soon as they are published ... the search engines don't want you manipulating their results.

i'll repaet that - NO SEARCH ENGINE WANTS YOU TO MANIPULATE THEIR RESULTS

if a published tutorial worked, then the engines would know about it and would nullify the info asap.
