I'm concerned because I totally forgot about those printer friendly pages - I wonder whether they could be harming my Google ranking because these hundreds of printer friendly pages count as 'duplicated' content?
I discovered that my printer friendly pages get about 3000 pageviews a month from search engines such as Google.
Would it be wise to put a <meta name="robots" content="noindex, follow"> tag on my printer friendly pages so that Google and others don't index my printer friendly pages but instead give extra attention to the original pages?.
No it wouldn't.In this way you'll get surely that Google doesn't index your printer friendly pages but that doesn't result in extra attention to your original pages.

That depends on the contents: if they are very similar ,than yes they could harm your Google ranking.
