How can I beat questionable SEO sites with true content?

Content is king, can king win over questionable seo?

Recently I worked on my one website. I did research for several key words. And I found many spam sites stay quite ahead in SE, even G.

I searched on backlinks, and you won't be supprised, all spam techniques you can find. For example, guest books, <noscript>, hidden text, nonsense repeated key words, ... The only thing they want is to sell that webpage, turn it into money. Then hit anther keywords.

We were advice here 'content is king' and I work on true content. I don't want to like them, use thousands spam backlinks. But does really content beat those spam websites?
