I run an established .net site and recently received the .com - are their guidelines I need to follow or tips anyone can give for this?

Why move? I'd simply redirect the .com to the .net.
If you must change your domain to the .com, 301 redirect the .net pages so you at least have some chance that the search engines will transfer your prior rankings.
