I wrote an ebook last year about buying a particular high priced consumer based product. The site also had affilaite links to purchase the product. After 6 months and several hundred adwords dollars, with no sales, I've decided to give up selling the book. The book was consumer based and had a selling price of $8.

I have two main directions I'm considering:

  • Take the books content, about 50 pages, and put it on another site selling similar products, thats doing much better in the SERP's.

  • Rework the existing site and put up the content there.

Any way you could sell the information cheaper? I sell very specific information about certain items for $2.95
in basically a ebook form with no problem and no advertising at all. The price point seems to be under $3.95 for this kind of information.

I'm not sure what you're asking, but it may have to do with your goals in this matter, the differences between "the existing site" and "another site", as well as other details we are not aware of :-)

Graywolf I don't have any experience with E-Books, however my guess is that people will rarely pay for someone's opinion online, no matter how cheap you make it. There are probably just too many alternative searches people can do for free before they decide to pay for your work. If there was a component to the offer that was shipped physically, it could be quite a different story.

If you can't sell the E-Book at the price you mentioned I wouldn't try making it cheaper. You could try charging more and enhancing the site's design to match the increased price, if indeed there's room to move there.

Affiliate links to a merchant is probably the way to go. By placing the content of the E-Book online you'll be creating an asset for future linking, and that can be lucrative in many ways.

Turn the ebook into a website. Slap AdSense or other affiliate banners in place. Take home some crumbs.
