Hello All

I will be starting a new ecommerce business and I have been studying the patterns/web promotion style of a major competitor of mine who happens to own the number 1 position on two major search engines for the last 12 months on a keyword that people would kill for.

The interest thing that I found in my study was the more this website promoted other companies via outbound links in the same industry and products as theirs, the better search engine results it appears to get.

Then I noticed on a internal news link they promoted again another website with the same products. This time however I found out that it is owned by the same company.

The funny thing of it all is that the website that is promoting all these companies/websites gets the #1 position for this major keyword while the others do not.

I am fascinated to see this style of web promotion and the results it has received.

Has anyone else see this type of promoting?

I assume that you find this as a special case, because this website seems to get great rankings even though it only seems to have outbound links. Did I read that correctly? Well, most people in this forum believe that it's the *inbound* links that help websites the most, so let me try to apply this theory on this case.

Doesn't it simply mean that this company with multiple websites is cross linking its own websites? hence more inbound links? ...hence higher rankings? They have Website A and Website B, and they link to each other, hence they both have inbound links.

I feel like I just went off on a tangent, but...the fact that this website gets #1 probably has to do with many other factors, and it's hard to say if this "promotion" is the contributor in ranking them high. What makes you think that it is their promotional methods that makes them rank high?
