Duplicate content or NOT?

Our site provides product description/comparison along with articles on different related topics.

We thought we would add to each product thumbnail pages, at the bottom of the page, three articles from our article base.

However, our concern is:

we have one page which is the full article.
We would then have 3 article summaries appear on each product thumbnail pages at the bottom of the page linking to each article page.

Would Google penalize us for duplicate content in this scenario?

As far as I understood it, duplicate content is between different domains, not within the same domain.

So if your site is widgets.com, and you have the exactly same content as widget.co.uk, then the pages can be considered duplicated content.

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong.
