Doorway Pages Help

I am very inexperienced in SEO, however as the Marketing Director of a dot-com, the CEO has put me in charge of this project. I've read alot about the typical stuff...meta tag keywords, keywords in the title, content description, alt tags, href's, etc. Now, I've read to really optimize listings, you need to create doorway pages for each of your keywords. The thing is I really don't understand how to design and develop the doorway pages. Are they just an html page. Where can I see an example of a doorway page. What are the contents of a doorway page? and do you create a url for that page? is it viewable to a person who is searching or is it strictly for the search engines...and if so, what page does one get to then?

Please help...my a*% is in a tight sling.

Welcome to WmW ofernandezjr.

Doorway pages are. just normal html pages that are content rich that link back to your main url. Lots of keywords and good info that you would otherwise not beable to place on your site as it would not fit well.

Thanks for your response. My website is http:,//clicseguros.com. We sell health and life insurance for non-US residents in Latin America or the US. One of my keywords is Life Insurance (in english, spanish and portuguese). I want to create a doorway page for this keyword in each language. What would this doorway page consist of? Is this the page I would submit to the search engines?

I know this is very basic stuff, but I really have no idea. I've added the keywords in all the right places (I think), but I need to optimize it to get a high ranking on the SE's.

I've also read about robot.txt files. What is that it? and how does it work?

Thanks again for your assistance.

Robot.txt file is the file that tells the Spider where on the site he can go and where he can't. If you don't want the spider in your Cgi-Bin then the robot.txt file would be how you would do it.

My suggestion for a doorway page in eash language would be. Write it first in your first language and then translate it to each of the othe langauges.

What I would do in your case is make a page that is text based writing all about what your company does. When writing this make sure that you work your keywords in to the paragraphs so that they will be found in a relevent search for your keyword. Lot of engines do not even look as meta tags anymore due to cramming of keywords. I still use them but very little. The doorway page would be the one that you submit to the engine. If your site is already listed in the engines and the spiders are visiting then just link to the doorway page from your main URL and that way the spider will just find you. no hard work just a small wait for him/her to visit.

The Doorway page will be seen by all unless you are cloaking. but that is another story all together :)

Hello drbill,

I may not be in the right forum but I saw that you were discussing doorway pages. In your last comment you mentioned that your doorway page would be seen unless you're cloaking. I understand doorway pages but I am just coming into the world of cloaking. Can you tell me how this is actually done, or direct me somewhere in the forum that kind of gives a blow by blow on this subject? I've been looking into it but still feel a little hazy on the how to's. Thanks for being so patient with us beginners :-)
