Several adult sites are using our company name in their meta tags. We have sent letter via email and did a search for who owned the domain. Most owners are overseas. We have had no response or progress regarding this...what is out next step. Also some of the meta tags use our company name with location and "see all lawsuits" regarding ABC Co.
Any help would be appreciated...

If you find some US companies/individuals doing this I would lawyer up on them and send a cease and desist.

If they are overseas you are pretty much screwed, unless you have a lawyer with expertise in international law and a boat load of cash. Even then your chances are slim.

Look at Microsoft trying to fight piracy in China? Nobody has more lawyers on the payroll or more money in the bank. Their attempts have been fruitless.

Using you company's name in meta tags seems like a non-issue to me.

If it is just used in the meta tags I would not worry about it.

If you have an adult site you may be interested in reading about a case involving Playboy a couple of years ago.

Let them use it in meta tags, how does it matter?

At least from an optimization POV, the effect is negligible.

I know several who do it, but are those sites getting a single visitor because of it? I don't think so.

What was the name of the company doing it? ABC Co?

Lol...

Easy! If they're in US - find and meet 'em in court, but if they're from our wonderland - you have no chances.

I'm embarrassed to say but I did this very thing a few years ago. I didn't know that the keyword was a company name. I placed the kw in my meta tags and since the name was so unique it came up on the 1st page of the serp's.

The company emailed me a very threatening letter. I apologized and instantly removed the word from my meta.
