I was reading up on the google algo yesterday... and it spoke about affiliate sites.

one classification of an affiliate site was if it was on the same IP address or the same 3rd octet (cant spelll but basicall 203.154.455.#*$! any on that range)

We have a problem in which we host all sites we develop at the same hosting company, sometimes these sites stick on the same server and the have the SAME ip address as the server uses the name to direct them to the appropriate site.

We host there as well and we put links to the developed site, so does this mean that the link from our site to the client site is ignored as it is on the same IP?

Links from the same class C ip are sometimes given less weight/credibility than from a different class C ip. Something to consider...

What were you reading? Was it articles about the Hilltop Algorithm?

>>and it spoke about affiliate sites.

This needs to be clear - there is a big difference between "affiliate sites" as used to describe sites belonging to affiliate marketers and "affiliated sites" which is a whole nuther thing entirely.

Hilltop talks about affiliated sites, which has nothing whatsoever to do with sites engaging in affiliate marketing. And has there been any concrete evidence that the Google algo is incorporating Hilltop?

Don't take things at face value - rather, analyze everything you read.
