I am the least technical guy in this forum, and this is my first post in the hallowed hall. So what do I do to get my site listed on page one on every single SE? We have a tiny, non flashy website, it generates £55million in Lending per annum, we have only 5 staff. Two things, we have a News Update page that we update every two weeks or less and it gives our clients the news they need to see. 2nd I have worked out that more people refer to a Companies initials than the full name, ICI, IBM or that they have a single name like Virgin, ok that one will get lots of searches! Seriously though, suppossing you are selling shoes and you put an add in the paper, you are paying for text, right? Well if you simply place an advert that says 'Looking for Shoes? Search ***** (initials)on any search engine', you have a cheap add and it works!

I get my news sent free everyday from Google Alert, there was a contentious subject matter in the Nationals, so I chipped in, we had free publicity including being interviewed on TV news. That is just being added to our site now, more PR?

Pardon my denseness, but I didn't understand what you were trying to say:

Can you reparse this so I can understand what you mean by this?

diamondgrl, Greetings - A Google Alert is within a Google toolbar, if you go to the big G & search 'Google Toolbar'it will lead you in, within that you will find the 'Google Alert'open it up and put in your chosen subject, it might be in your case 'diamonds'- then overnight Google will e mail you any and all news stories on your subject. Sometimes you will see a 'reply to subject' box. Or you can trace the writer, get their e-mail address and put your comments on the article in, and include your URL, even go as far as saying, 'I have hot news for you, if you print it will you include my URL as source'. We did this with the News of the World and it worked. 7 times they printed our details. If you have any problems you know where I am.
