Is a parent page affected by what content it chooses to show in an iframe? Since the iframe is "included" in the parent page, one might think it should be considered part of the content of the parent page.

One strategy I'm trying now is putting dupe content (like advertisements and swag) into an iframe. My goal is to remove that content from my page and put it somewhere else where it won't be spidered or indexed.

All reports I've heard say "no", bots do not care about what's in your iframe. However I know if I was writing a spider, I'd care.

Any thoughts?

from what i can tell i don't think it does; one of my site has iframes and , it just seems to treat the page in the iframe as another page.

i have seen no indication that any of the SE;s have in any way associated the content of the iframe to the parent page.

I think I remember Brett once saying that the content is ignored (as far as SEO) but that the file name (of the iframe) may have a bit of influence. i.e. if the page is about widgets then a file name of more_widgets.html may help toward the overall page theme.

Please correct me if my memory is getting fading...
