Adding links to a website

I'd like to add a few links to a website in hopes that they will increase the organic placements. I'm concerned, however, that the links will drive visitors away from the site. Is there a way that I can add links to my site without risking visitors fleeing? Is it possible to hide links and still increase your natural search engine placement?

Links that could be considered invisible, or impossible to click on will help your site. That is, right up until you are caught, and get a big fat ban.

Search for webmaster guidelines on nearly any search engine. (see especially the sections called "quality guidelines")

Edit: I had originally hinted at a particular search engine to use to look up the document I referenced. It turns out every one I typed the phrase into returned the same first link, so it doesn't seem to matter!

Ok.....then if I were to create one page with a list of links, will that help me much in the organic search results?

You could simply open all links in a blank window. That way, even if the user eventually closes the window you just linked them to - your site will still be live in the original window.

You could also look at using frames (although i personally hate frames). Using frames you could open up all links in one frame while still having a header for your site in the top frame.

Just a couple of options! Hope they are of use to you!

Bubz, the whole point of having links on your site is to provide resources for your visitors. If you are so paranoid that you think people will leave, then don't link. But accept the fact that you are not doing what is best for your site visitors.

The web is a network, and if you seek out good linking partners, then as you link out to one site about a subject, so another will link to you about yours. Get used to linking for traffic, and the world will be a better place. :)
