Ok...I'm going to try and ask this question without going into to much detail to stay within the TOS, mods if I go over see if you can help me out.

A client of mine is launching a new site. He purchased what he felt was a good domain that also reflects the website name. It's fairly short, catchy etc.

The problem is the domain and thus the company name has RX on the end. Now this site has nothing to do with the prescriptions field. I wouldn't even use the specific word except for the fact that the word is such a high profile word and possibly would have an impact on a site that a less high-profile off-topic word would not.

My question is do you think having this associated with the site it will throw off what the engines see the site as being about. The content of the site will, of course, be ontopic and optimized well.

Currently, the domain name and thus company name are in the format of www.widgetrx.com with widget being 1 word of the two word target phrase.

The vast majority of the links in will have the proper link text, but directory listings etc. will generally be using the company name. Not to mention future unsolicited links will likely also use the company name and thus the off-themed text in the link text.

I haven't had to deal with this in the past and am unsure of the long-term effects of this and would like to see if anyone has any experience with this instead of waiting a couple of months to see what happens.

The content on the site would outweigh any domain name. So as long as your content is relevant to the product/service you are offering you should be o.k.

For example, monster.com has nothing to do with "monsters"? This is an extreme example but it illustrates the point.

That is what I am hoping, it's just that it's such a high profile off-theme term.

I wouldn't worry at all if the domain was www.widgetmonster.com as, while off-themed, it's more of a generic off-theme. The RX area is such a high-profile and spammed area, I'm wondering if this could cause issues down the road that I would rather avoid.

I agree on-page stuff *should* trump it, but just a bit worried.
