does it matter what you name pages, images and folders? does it make a difference when promoting your site?

I try to keep my pages simple in case people want to type them in. I think it's easier to type

www.mysite.com/about

as opposed to

www.mysite.com/about_us_page

As for images, I name them something that is helpful in remembering what's in there. If I have a picture of Niagara Falls, instead of just saying waterfall.jpg I'll name it niagarafalls.jpg.

Folders, well, that's a different story with me. I'm an organization freak and like to have everything just-so. I have all of my navigation buttons in a folder, all of my pictures in a folder, my icons in a folder, etc.

Doh! I realize my post now has nothing to do with your SEO question. Sorry!

I have never done a site bigger then 200 pages. So I always keep all my pages in one folder. Images/templates/newsletters/libraries/etc all have their own folder which I name accourding to what it has.

Images and pages names are a different matter. I always put relevant keywords in my page names. For example, if I have a niagra falls page, I may name it niagra_falls_information_.html, and a niagra falls picture would be called niagra_falls_picture_. In general, my page names always have the central keyword for that page. This with the exception of about us, contact us, site map and index which always have just one word names. The links page I never call links.html. But that is just my habits.
