Cross Linking sites on same server and Ip?

Hi - looking forward to learn from all in here :o)

Is it true that SE (especially google) penalize you for cross linking between your domains on the same server?
I have 10 domains on same server and shared IP, and they are all cross-linking with each other. Is that something I should change?

Thanx in advance
Mike

If you are going to cross link sites you own, it is always best to not only use a different IP address, but also a different class c ip address. In simple terms the first 3 sets of numbers: 195.24.53. should also be different.

This may mean you have to host the different sites on different hosting providers to avoid detection.

It's costly, but the SERP value of these links is better than links from the same class c ip.

A moderate amount of cross-linking between sites on the same server is okay as long as (1) you don't overdo it, and (2) you have more than just that for links.

Remember that no matter how you spread things around, the search engines are getting better and better at spotting patterns which suggest that a cluster of sites is under "common administrative control".

Consider whether the cost and effort it would take to fake it might be just as wisely invested in getting more directory listings and other one-way links from truly external sources.

Thanks a lot for you replies!
2 questions to this though: "the search engines are getting better and better at spotting patterns which suggest that a cluster of sites is under "common administrative control".

1. I guess that SE's penalize you for cross-linking under "common administrative control". But how do they penalize you - by putting lesser value on the cross-links? Or anything worse?

2. And how to know the limit for "overdoing it"? I have 10 sites (PR0-4) - all 100% cross linked - with related geografical content (adult) and a lot of galleries and pages linking accross all the domains. How do I get an idea of how much (and in which way) to cut down the links to try improving rankings?

Stupid me I didn't join this board before - its an awesome knowlegde database - appreciate to learn from ya all!

all 100% cross linked

Say more about what you mean by "100% cross linked". There are levels and levels ...

No ordinary mortal knows where the line is for "too much", but sometimes you'll see things that are indisputably wayyyy across it. I saw one network that had dozens of sites interlinked, and every page had dozens of keyword-stuffed links hidden by a variety of techniques. They were not crosslinking to add any useful references for their visitors! They did well in certain topic areas for a while, but they have vanished from view lately. Co-incidence?

On the other hand, if your crosslinking passes the test: "Would this seem logical to human visitors?" you're likely quite safe, and while after a point you might get less value out of some links you're unlikely to attract any actual penalties. I can't prove that, of course, but in terms of logic, justice and my own experience it makes sense.

I hate saying this to an adult guy, but if your pages are only 0-4, you need to get more links coming in from outside sources. Having more Page Rank circulating within your system can only help, and I believe that having a broader base of links widens your margins of safety for whatever might be "too much".

Keep in mind that not everyone would agree with my Miss Goody Two-Shoes approach.

Some folks around here figure that if you don't get something banned once in a while you're not trying hard enough.

I have crossed link between 2 sites on the same c class, and google shows them both up when I check for backlinks...so I guess its okay as long as you don't over do it.
