linking domains on same ip considered external or internal..

Do searchengines regard linked domains on the same IP address as internal links or external links?

Or does this differ from searchengine to searchengine?

Hi James.

I find that if the domains are all listed on the same IP BUT not over used. then I think they look at each domain as an external link.

Sometimes I wonder when the engines will actually look at the domain and not the IP as well.
