Is having lots of product specific sites appropriate or not?

Single master site VS several smaller sites.

Hello all,

I've got a question that I need some help on...

I am the web developer for a company that has an ecommerce website. We've got about 70 products that we sell online, with information and references linked to each product page.

Our marketing department has recently asked me if it would be possible/ethical to create a separate site (buy the domain, the whole deal) for each product, that would ultimately link back to the one online store. Gotta love those marketing guys.

Technical and financial aspects aside, I'd appreciate opinions on whether or not this would be considered spam to a search engine.

Thanks for your time and consideration!

nadiathespy, if your sites will have content plenty sites wiil not be couse of problems.
Look at froogle.google.com, news.google.com, images.google.com etc. Different services/products has different sites.
www.7up.com and www.drpepper.com belongs one company but they made two sites. They are not banned, aren't they?
