I have a site where we add original articles and news stories on a regular basis (for a specific niche). Other sites that are not affiliated with us repost our articles with permission from time to time.
Is this considered duplicate content? If so, will my site be penalized for this - even though we are the originator of the content?
I have noticed that some of our articles on other sites come up high in the search engines, whereas the same article on our site is in the 100s. Our originating pages all have PR.
Our originating pages all have PR.
How much PR? Usually, in the case of dupe content, the page with the most PR wins (ie, the others get removed from the index).
I have seen some authoritative articles on subjects I follow ranking well on several sites, perhaps because each has lots of relevant inbound links directly to the article, but this is rare.
I think if I were to allow my content to be syndicated, I'd have a syndication version that was a fair amount different from the version on my site.
