Hey guys, I'm in the SUPER competitive market of [snip] and I'm finding this...

My Title, Description, and Keywords all start with "keyword phrase, keyword phrase, keywordphrase, keywordphrase"

When I search the major engines using no spaces i.e. "keywordphrase" my site comes up... however if I search WITH the spaces i.e. "keyword phrase" my site is non-existant.

How does this happen and how can I fix it?

Thanks,

AB

Hi adamblue,

Welcome to WebmasterWorld.

Your first query provides 66,600 results and the other 11,700,000. Not exacly the same competition range. Search engines try to provide results wich are relevant to users's queries. Supply is usually relative to demand, ie, less people do typos.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Mac...

Should I take out the non-spaced keywords all together, or just push them back on the list?

If you are talking about the keywords in your keyword meta tag, I am afraid they are next to worthless. Dont loose much sleep over this.

Roughly, what you need to get top position for such a market is about 20 000 other web pages pointing to various parts of your site and using variants of your targeted keywords as anchor text.

Here are a few good treads about how to succeed in Search engine promotion.

You can find the best ones in the forum's library [webmasterworld.com].

You can also find good informations about how to get those 20 000 links in the Link Development [webmasterworld.com] forum.

Enjoy the reading!

It looks like I need some edumacation on this...what other kinds of keywords are there besides in my Meta tag? What's an anchor? Is there anywhere I can read up on the basics of these things?

Thanks for the advice!

Hi again adamblue,

I am glad you found this place. The volume of information in here is impressive and can be intimidating at first. As far as search engine promotion is concerned, this is where I learned, and keep on learning, pretty much everything.

The first link I provided gives very good and detailed informations about how to structure a page/site for search engine promotion. Once this step is done you need to work on external factors. The later boils down to getting links to your site. Every link you get is a 'vote' for your site.

Anchor text is the text used in a page to link to another page. As an example, I used " Link Development " as anchor to link to the link developement forum in my post above.

You also may want to check out the glossary [webmasterworld.com] in case you run across terms you don't understand. Welcome to Webmasterworld.

Thanks so much guys...and yes this material is WAY intimidating! The info that you guys gave me is a big help. Ok, now I'm stuck on CSS sheets...what are those...I tried to make a <H1> header and it looks really big and ugly at the top of my page.

CSS stands for cascading style sheets. They can be used to create website templates without touching the html coding making it easier to change the layout and design of the site later on.
CSS can be loaded into a site either by an external sheet, style scripts at the top of the page, or in the html tag you want to effect. Externals are usually the preferred route.

Doing search online or looking for CSS textbooks at bookstores should yield you a lot of information.
