Now I'm fairly new at SEO, and I have never used such a tool. And I have a nagging thought in the back of my mind that there is a downside. Before I take the plunge (or not) -- what do other people think about using this software?
There is no need to submit your site to 1000s of search engines – only 5-6 really matter with an emphasis on 3.
Forget that bombardment software and concentrate on optimizing your site for the search engines that matter like Google, Yahoo!, and MSN that’s were 90%+ of your search engine traffic will come from anyway.
IMO submission software is a dangerous waste of time and money.
These types of programs are dinosaurs from a distant past. Unfortunately, there are many consumers who don't know any better and that is who those programs target. You know the routine; $29.00 for one time submission. $49.00 for resubmission every month for three months, etc., etc., etc.
I ran a test on auto-submission software a couple of years ago. I submitted to I believe 180 search engines and directories. Of that 180, 70% of them failed. I can only assume that they failed because the submission bot was blocked by the search engine and/or directory. Of the 30% that were successful, 29% of those never generated a visitor. Of the 1% that did generate a visitor, it was pretty much a driveby.
Don't use unauthorized computer programs to submit pages, check rankings, etc. Such programs consume computing resources and violate our terms of service. Google does not recommend the use of products such as WebPosition Gold™ that send automatic or programmatic queries to Google.
As per Google guidelines....
