Even I have the same trouble, the current search engines show only 1000 results and it gets difficult to get a comprehensive list of backlinks. Plus GoogleGuy said that Google displays only a part of random backlinks from their complete database, whereas they have a complete copy with themselves.

You could even try for the following query

Hi..

Since Google is considered to be the number one SE, it is better to consider your competitors backward links.

Also, it is very important to see the type of site that provides you a link, quality of the website that provides you the link, number of links already present on the page where your link has been placed, the PR of the page and so on...

Let me know if this helps!

With warm regards
Rajiv

I just do a search for my site in google and it normally turns up the majority of backlinks.

For example search for 'webmasterworld.com'

You have enough backlinks when you're #1 (and even then I wouldn't stop hunting them). The actual number the competition have is irrelevant.

The best way to stay ahead of the game is to ignore the competition and get on with doing your own thing. And that should be a continuously evolving process.

?domain.com

don't know about Yahoo and others
