Newbie here, and I'm tired of lurking. :)

I've been like trying to absorb everything I can for my yahoo merchant solutions site, but I'm not sure I can actually use alot of this stuff, b/c I have to use a template.

I digress, but reading about getting a higher pr, I understand you should add links to relevant keywords, but could someone please define and explain the differences between the recommended links to add to one's page and site an example for each.

My web site sells ecudational toys.

Thanks and God Bless!

Welcome to the posting side GameDay :)

1) External links: Links that are located outside your own website, ie. links on other websites. These may, or may not, point to your website.

2) Internal links: Links that are located on your own website and point to pages within your own website. Aka. "Navigation"

3) Outbound links: Links that are located on your own website andpoint to pages on other websites. Aka. "Links out"

4) Inbound links: Links that are located outsite your own website, but points to pages within your website, ie. some other site links to you. Aka. "Incoming links"

To get higher PR you will want other websites to link to you, ie. type 4. This is the link type most of the posts here deal with.

Higher PR alone does not cut it, however, so you will also want to make sure that your internal links (type 2) allows the bot to navigate your whole site to find all the pages.

For both type 2 and 4, you will also want that the link has "the right anchor text", ie. link text that identifies the topic of the page the link points to. This usually means that the link text contains the relevant keywords for the page it points to.

In msg. #7 of the thread Hyperlink Maintenance [webmasterworld.com] you'll find a nice taxonomy of links.

Hope this helps.

LOL! "My web site sells ecudational toys."

I'm so embarrassed. LOL! My site should have a warning that states, "Don't shop here!" :)

Lesson learned, I'm using "ecudational toys" as one of my adwords. :)
