I have been submitting our site as www.acterna.com rather than www.acterna.com/index.html does one give me a chance at a higher ranking than the other?

Is it wise to have both .html and .htm?

Thanks

I don't think so. Either index.html, index.htm or index.shtml are looked for as default pages if a URL does not specify a file, so i'd think there would be a potential for confusion if more than one were present. I'd pick one suffix and stick with it.
