I'm not sure what you are asking. I will venture a few thoughts that might help you. Google does not look at the meta keyword tag it is probably the most useless thing a person could worry about in SEO even for the engines that look at it. It carries so very little weight even then. Now about phrase length. The limits on Google are ten. You can't type in more than 10 kw's in Google. Any less than 11 is ok. I would not repeat a kw more than twice in a title. I would not have a title longer than 70 chars. You can only have 128 chars per kw so you can have 10 128 char words. That is the limit in Google.

Ogletree. Why would you not have a title longer than 70 characters?

We use up to 15 words in the title with no problems at all.
I think short titles are a thing of the past, I've never understood why anyone would use a short Title when they can use a long one, as long as it looks natural and the words appear sprinkled in the body of the text you will have no problems at all and can rank quite high.
The only thing google does is cut it short, but still values it. Why optimise for a few keywords when you can optimise for many?

Ogletree. Why would you not have a title longer than 70 characters?

Because shorter titles have been proven to outperform longer titles 9 out of 10 times. If your pages are tightly focused, your

<title>
elements are usually on the shorter side.

Here is a litte more information on the...

Agreed page one results but,

We have tried and tested this on a lot of our websites in our industry and a longer page title does have a lot of advantages as long as your title is not spammy and reflects the page information.
Yes it gets cut off, but my point is that you can get in a few more keywords in the title and not get penalised for it, and rank high.

I would never focus more than one phrase per page. If I have some room left over maybe I will throw one in but it is not the norm for me. The only reason I would go to 70 chars is for marketing not SEO. For SEO I only put the phrase I want and it almost alwasy is first. I will run some tests and see. What is your max. I would guess 128 because Google seems to like that number. I always open to new ideas.

Is the keyword density in the title more important than other place?

I would never focus more than one phrase per page.

ogletree - I understand where you're coming from on this, but I think one phrase per page can be too limiting. It can narrow your focus too much, and cost you what I call "peripheral" terms. See the discussion on this thread...
