Optimization for Google and Yahoo + any others!

Ive read threads, but most are from last year.

I want to know how to optimize for both Google and Yahoo, plus any other major ones!

Ive pretty much conquered google at the moment and cant seem to do much wrong :) although that may change.

Yahoo is a different matter, i only have a couple of sites here that rank well, the others dont seem to be anywhere.

I want to be ranking high on both + MSN, what are the major techniques i should be applying to cover myself for maximum promotion.

I implement all the common sense techniques:

title
meta tags
alt tags
anchor text on links
file names
h1 tags
bold text
....etc....

I dont want to leave all my eggs in one basket (google) incase thing go pear shape!

Does link exhanging/incomming links make a difference for Yahoo? or just google.

My feeling is that if to high a percentage of your links are recips, then Y! may find it out of favour. Y! is a lot like Google was before Nov 2003. Inbounds with good anchors and vanilla on page SEO seems to be whats working.
