Greetings,
I know it is advised against, but sites that are loaded with with content that may not be relevent and redundent seem to get returned on search results.
In some instances it seems that what is visable in the body of the page is what really matters.

Any thoughts?

In general that is true, but remember it depends a lot of the algo and the search engine referenced. Each is different, as there are off-page factors as well. For keywords which do not have heavy competition, the on page factors will weight the heaviest.

Thanks Cabo!
Yeah, I do it both ways. Some of the folks I run into go nuts when they see my pages and tell me how the google police are going to arrest me, but it seems to work.
I still don't know why that on some days I turn up on the first page and others not at all.
Somebody mentioned adding links to the pages, but links to what I wonder?
My competitors would be filing lawsuits if I did.
Any ideas on this?
