Links on pages with white text and image backgrounds

I have been getting a bunch of links lately and some of my links are on sites that have white text, background images, and the background color is white by default because these site don't specify a background color. Do search engines see this as white text on a white background or does using a background image override this kind of penalty. Thanks

Theoretically, this shouldn't cause a problem - kind of like a white page with black table cells and white type. Particularly with the increased popularity of CSS, it's kind of tough for a search engine to detect hidden text algorithmically with a high degree of certainty except under the simplest of conditions. Personally, I still try to avoid fonts & backgrounds of identical color, but I think the risk is fairly minimal, particularly for your site when the link text in question is on the other site.
