Anchor Text?!?

When you guys mention Anchor Text and it seems pretty important what do you guys mean.
What is an anchor Text?

Only Anchor i Know is Anchor points to direct a link somewhere on the same page you are on.

Can someone please explain that to me.

The text between the <a> and </a> is the anhor text.
