Another old news story was resolved today, Patrick Naughton [dailynews.yahoo.com] was sentenced. He was the Infoseek exec who was accused of soliciting sex with a minor over the internet and having child porn on his computer.

Justice...the American way. Commit a heinous crime and get off through naming others just as bad. I hope the social stigma is much worse then the courts' penalty.

After reading most of the news accounts of this story, I'm surprised he didn't get off entirely. I can't see that he actually committed a crime. A) he never engaged in anything but talk. It became apparent that when he met the woman, she obviously wasn't a teenager. B) Who knows what lurks behind downloaded image files. They never did say what type of images he had. His lawyer said they were all legal scans out of the playboy group on usenet. The prosecution called them 'child porn'.

Where is the crime? Talking in a fantasy chat room with a '13 year old' he knew full well wasn't 13? You'd have to be an idiot to think someone in a chat room with the sexual knowledge it sounds like the jane 13 doe police woman displayed was a young teenager. Naughton wasn't an idiot. Of course he knew she wasn't 13. Where is the crime?
