Description element for SEO

there are alot of doubts for the description tag and
i want to know some more about description,

can any one please help me to give the adress of some topics where description tag had been discussed on webmaster forum.

Last year I noticed some SE's like google used the description tag less and less. Over the last few months I've seen it pretty much ignore it on all my sites.

As of yet I still haven't figured out for sure if the tag helps or not so I keep them in there for other SE's that might still use them.
