I know this has probably been asked a thousand times, but i just need to clarify that nothing has changed. In fact, i actually asked about it almost 2 years ago.

Can anyone confirm that infact the situation between layers and SE's has not changed. That SE's do still read text within layers. I understand you can be in trouble for using hidden layers, but they do still read content in a normal visible layer don't they?

Yes they do read content within layers. Actually until (as far as I know) present day they still read content within hidden layers as there are many valid reasons for having a layer hidden when the page first loads. This is first hand experience and I confirm content within hidden layers that is shown later on in a 'mouse down' is visible in the SERPS
