I know it is an unfair question but what would be a good conversion rate for sites using search engine marketing.

I.E. people visiting site to buying ratio.

If anyone has an idea please let me know ASAP.

Manythanks - Stewart

It impossible to judge how a ratio can be worked out because it all depends on a number of factors.

1. Is you site fast, clean and informative.

2. Can you outprice your competitors?

3. What industry your in is important.

If your a niche market then it may happen that you will get a good conversion rate as it is hard to come by your products. If your running a PC parts site for instance then it would happen that a customer will shop around for the best bargain and you will find loads more competition. This way your sales/visitors conversion rate will be low.

Its best to basically work on your own ratio. If you are covering your overheads then that is great. Work on that and keep trying different methods of making profit. Find new suppliers... Special Offers and Competitions are ways of generating repeat custom (unless of course you sell cars or something of a similar nature).

I hope this helps

Hi Stewart,

If you are working on extremely small margins, have a fast practical site, easy to order, free delivery, special offers then you want to be converting above 5%.

DVDs competetively priced, free delivery, should see your traffic convert at 2-4%.

If you are offering high street prices and delivery charges, then you can take it down to 1%.

Use the above to find your medium.

Hope that helps,

H
