Several search engines seized the opportunity to make major announcements at the Internet Marketing Conference in Stockholm Oct 26-27, which was attended by 160 SEO executives from all over Europe and some of the world's best known gurus as speakers. I have written three articles so far:

Altavista to sell keywords and express crawling. [webmasterworld.com] Nordic area testbench for new SE money making schemes

Inktomi executive reveals parts of algorithm [webmasterworld.com] User behaviour sets automatic spamming penalty

"Stop anti-cloaking hysteria" [webmasterworld.com] SE executive calls for SE:s to join in open discussion

Jan, your reporting on the conference has been extraordinary. Thanks!

Jan will be easy to identify at any upcoming SEO events in Europe. He'll be wearing the light blue pith helmet outfitted with a webcam, on-board battery pack, and satellite up-link. We figure he's good for twenty or thirty conferences before the rig will completely fry his brain.

Jan,

Thanks for all the great information. There is just one thing killing me:

I can't for the life of me find Rezone's posting on Oct 3.

Can you at least tell me which forum it is in?

Las Vegas is OK (actually it is great) but shouldn't you hit the East Coast of the US before you "go west, young man, go west"? Actually, it might be cheaper to fly to Vegas from Philadelphia than it would be to fly to a number of East Coast cities. How soon will details (agenda, speakers, hotels etc) be available?

My groom and I are moving to Maine in May, and I probably can't make it there! :(

Nice to meet you too, henki. Let's do lunch one of these days.

Las Vegas next spring, eh? Never been there. Just checked air fares from here and it's not all that bad. Might go, if you promise that I will not have to see that OH picture with "Major international search engines" that you know who presented. Gave me a rash. (Itch, itch, itch.)

Laisha: Are you getting married or are you talking of your stablehand?

Jan - Great reporting on the conference. It was especially a great pleasure to meet you. I'm still collating my notes on the meetings but all-in-all a very interesting event.

A pleasure to meet you too makemetop.

I am really glad that you and everybody else who have posted here appreciated the articles. It *was* a very rainy, cold and windy weekend so I was glad to have an excuse not to get out, but this type of concice news style writing is a lot more time consuming than it looks. Couldn't help myself. It was news and had to be treated as such, even if the type of prose is a unusual for this board.

Hi Guys!

Thumbs up! to rencke for posting the news from IMS 2000 in Stockholm so fast!

I just wanted to add that both Yahoo and Looksmart stated that they would offer express submissions to the local sites in the near future - even though the Yahoo representative said that already existed (maybe he ment to the UK and other speaking countries?)
Anyway, I think this service is long overdue to us scandinavians and I'm really looking forward to this.

Greetings to all the guys I met - nice to have a face or two to put on the names :-)

Cheers

I am not in charge of the US conference. It is arranged by the organization for online marketers that we founded on saturday. I will fill you out on that as soon as the web site is up.

The US event will be arranged by Jim Wilson and Daron Babin. They choose Las Vegas and the timing for it.

I am also going to the Search Engine Strategy conference in Dallas in november. Any one else?

Vegas? When is there going to be anything on the east coast?? Not that I mind going to Vegas, but I don't think the company will pay for Vegas. *pout*

>east coast
My thought, exactly. And not NYC, DC, or Atlanta. I like Charleston, SC -great party town.

>the company will pay for Vegas. *pout*
Well, air fare for Vegas is pretty cheap. Maybe we can find one of those gambling deals where they'll fly us out there if we buy $200 worth of chips.

lol That might not be a bad idea. I think DC would be the perfect place for something like this. There are more and more internet companies moving to this area. Besides if it was here the company couldn't say no. They wouldn't have to worry about airfare or hotel stay.

But Hope, (how can I say this tactfully?) DC sucks.

Back to the conference topic: EAST coast would be nice... Or Toronto.

Split the difference between east and west coast: Kansas City, Dallas, Chicago...
