I have had relatively good page placement on Google, just from keywords and activity; but I noticed a shift lately. I maintain several websites for [snip]. So, my ranking is important to help these patients find support from others with their illness.

I am wondering if this group has comprised a "how to" list on search engine ranking, by search engine. And if there are any easy ways to submit to a number of search engines. I am installing new websites for different [snip] and I would like to construct and submit properly, so that these patients can find us quickly.

Thanks.

You'll need this post and not much else: Successful Site in 12 Months with Google Alone [webmasterworld.com]

Well, perhaps the pages from the left navigation bar here: [google.com...]

Even though this only mentions Google, the 26 steps will help you in the other Search Engines as well, and Google's webmaster information pages have good general information too.

As for submissions, it's probably better to visit each search engine individually and "submit by hand" than to use software for submissions. See the Site glossary [webmasterworld.com] entry for "Submission Service".

Given the area of interest, I believe you have quite a good chance to generate a lot of inbound links. Work the ODP (dmoz.org) directory. Submit to the proper category and work the other websites found their for links to your site. If the content is good, this will boost your ranking in a hurry.

I have good content, many keywords, good title, links to many large cancer websites, some links back to me. I am very high on Google's directory, but not their search engine for one of my websites for pediatric cancers. Could someone explain to me why that happens?

Thanks and take care, Sharon

If you have sites that rank well and sites that don't, you need to step back and see what's different about them.

It could be a lot of things. It's impossible to say what's happening.

You do say the you have lots of keywords. Are you perhaps spreadng out too far. Narrow your focus a litte and see what happens.
