Question about CSS

I know that search engines do not like too much bolded text. My client has a site that the search engines do not seem to like and I am wondering if it could be due to the fact that all their text on the site is bolded. It is not done through <b> or <strong> tags, but through CSS. They have a style sheet that has all text in TD tags bolded. All their text is then within <p> tags which are not bolded, but the bold cascades from the TD.

I suspect I did not explain that well. Anyways, do you think that could be part of their problem?

Search engines are fickle beasts and while I could understand a single search engine disliking your site based on content if you're seeing several different engines "disliking" your site I'd start looking at more basic elements since it's unlikely different engines share the same basic content analysis/content weighting processes...

When you say "dislike" do you mean you aren't ranking well or that the site isn't appearing, if it's not appearing then you might want to consider things like;

  • Are they even crawling the site?
  • Are they stopping after a page or two or are they crawling further?
  • Are their requests being handled without errors?
  • Are pages they request making it to the index?
