Everyone talks about left side vs right side navigation menu. I wanted as much space as possible to fit content without running off the page horizontally so I put links at the top and bottom of each page to one main product list page. Also, at the bottom of each page have about 10 links to various important products. Those 10 products pages have pr 1 higher than the other pages. Was thinking about trying to squeeze content in and moving navigation to left side. Wondering, if the widget page has links to gizmos, gadgets and warbles at the top or left side won't that take away rank for the keyword widget?

i would doubt it, if you are moving a link on the same page, it should not effect pr.

The discussions about location of links is not a pr one, it is simply an indexing one, i.e. from a crawling point of view.

This is to enhance keyword ratios for indexing purposes, if you have pr and the site has been crawled and these links are listed then moving them around the same page would not effect the PR of your links.
