H1 H2 balance

What are the rules of headings?

Could someone tell how to use H1 and H2 in a html page without abusing and having in mind to exploit the benefit of those for SEM?

IE:

H1 Your works, title key

H2 Some description and why not a key too?

p some body text

H1 some links with keys..

Is that acceptable?

Hi,

H1 should only be present once on a page (should) if you try to validate your code your should get an error from the validator.

Anyway because H1 has been spammed there is a trend that says it's best to use h2 and 3 in conjunction.
