I am new here and i'm trying to optimize my site for SE's.
Now i was wondering, since the title tag is the most important thing for the google spiders, when i search google for a certain keyword combination like X Y and in the results there are no other sites that have X Y in their title, will my page rank first than if i put X Y in my title tag?

Titles are good yes, but its just a part of the picture. That said, if no other pages have the keyword in the title then adding it will give you a head start.
And welcome to webmasterworld!
To do this you should know what potential readers are searching for as well, use tools like the Overture keyword suggestion tool and wordtracker.com.
Basically, figure out keywords and use those as topics and write content focused on them. This way you can 'organically' develop good traffic because people will like your site.
That's the ideal at least. In reality, a search engine won't appreciate the intrinsic nuances and intangible qualities of good content as much as a reader would, so you have to use these little tricks to spice up your page for the spiders. read this post [webmasterworld.com ]
