Stopping ANY search engine promotion

Hi,

I'm designing a small website for a client who owns a well-reserved European Garden and Landscape design company.

The client has requested that a restriction is set in place to stop search engines linking to the site. His reason for this is that he has enough work already and doesn't want to be burdened by emails from people he would prefer not to work for (he is very specific about the clients he chooses to work for).

What methods would you use to do this? Are there tutorials available? This is the first I have ever heard of a client NOT wanting search engine promotion!

Put a robots.txt file in the root of the server with the following content:

User-agent: *
Disallow: /

Another idea might be to find one of his competitors and ask them if they would like him to direct these clients to them, for a percentage. Never waste traffic. :)

I think he can sell those leads for the time beings...but that can give a BAD repute.

Puting a disallow will be BAD.

If I were you, I would put my own email address on the site like this:

Contact the webmaster for more information:
webmaster@site.com

And then forward the good emails to your client, the ones that you think he will be interested in working for.

And I would of course charge him for the extra time.
