Let's not forget that the shifting sands at Google may not last forever, it's liable to settle down. They've been known to be unstable during extended periods of testing. Not this long, but it *might* settle down eventually if the public starts to respond less favorably than they'd like.
Also - let's not forget that Yahoo bought Inktomi, and Ink is an optimizers delight. Yep, some more fun might just be starting, we'll just have to wait and see.
And, those have yet to be proven as a 'profitable' business model, as every engine that runs them has changed hands...;) Perhaps that's a signal that it's not a good idea, & part of the success @ Google?
There are always more valueable services you can give to clients in need to excellent marketing services, if you have clients, it's easy enough to upsell them when you make them $$$
