I know that keyword-in-url domains do not have much if any extra merit on basis of domain name only in SERPS, but when considered as the anchor for a inbound link, does anyone think the word order is real important in most SE's.

Like if both words match a search and no quotes are used in the search, will there be any advantage to having the exact word order in so far as anchor tags or anchor text on inbound links to the site go?

Welcome to WebmasterWorld, Lundy!

The order I would suggest is the word with the largest search results first.

Even better, if the 2 word phrase makes sense, for instance, "blue widget" instead of "widget blue" then put it in its logical order.

Oh, and don't forget to separate the words:
bluewidget.com - NOT like this
blue_widget.com - NOT like this
blue-widget.com - YEAH, like this!

Good luck. There is plenty of reading here to do. Click the site search above for a topic and read until your eyes hurt.

WFN :)

If two pages are optimised equally well, one for blue widgets and one for widgets blue, then the blue widgets page will rank higher in a search for blue widgets.

Proximity of terms is also important. Two equal pages, one optimised for blue widgets and one for blue fluffy widgets, the second one will rank higher in a search for blue green widgets.
