How to transfer traffic from one domain to another

Hi!

I've seen quite a few SEO's offering a service where, rather than mess with your main site, they set up a new one, optimise that, and transfer the traffic to you.

Sometimes this is charged on a PPC basis.

Question is - how do they achieve the transfer of traffic?

Is it user-led (click on link)? - presumably inneficient (ie lots of users won't).

Is it cloaking? (risky).

Do they pop your site under the optimised domain?(potentially annoying to visitors).

Or is there a better way.

I'm thinking of creating some optimised sites to feed traffic to my main site - so it'd be useful to know how the pros do this.

These are the 2 top ways of doing this, both are dubious to say the least as you do NOT have much control of what you are paying for.

But saying that, there are people who do it real well, and charge on a cpc basis, which is way lower than Overture and Google.

I suppose one of the biggest issues is the fact that NO guarantee can be given of the number or quality of visitor.
