Who and where to submit

I would like to know about submissions.
How often?
All Pages, or just home page?
Use free submission?
Submit to FFA's and Directories?
Is a direct submission to Google any better than a submitter that says it will submit to Google.

Well, that's enough for now. (If there's a FAQ for some of this beginner stuff, that'll work.)

Thanks,
Mike

Welcome [webmasterworld.com] to WebmasterWorld, Michaeldd :).

I would submit to Google and DMOZ to start with. Then read this post [webmasterworld.com] on how to build a successful site :).

I would stay away from the bulk submitters and instead use the time that you save to improve your site.

First, be sure your site will pass the editor test at dmoz, then submit it there. Once. It often takes time, so wait at least 3 month before resubmitting.

Usually just the homepage, be sure to have links to subpages.

Free submission to Google (if you have incomming links, googlebot will usually find your site by it self)
Depending on language, target countries, competition, etc. paid submission to FAST and especially Inktomi is good.
Paid submission to Yahoo - again, be sure your site will pass the editor test it's $299 NONREFUNDABLE.

Allways hand submit, DON'T use autosubmissions, bulksumbissions and the like.

Read the thread aus_dave links to. You can also use site search [webmasterworld.com]

Avoid FFAs like the plague!

Before doing any paid submissions do a rough ROI (return on investment) calculation.

All sites can be submitted to DMOZ for free, non-commercail sites can be submitted for free to Yahoo! and to zeal. There are two other general purpose directories that many try to get included in: JoeAnt and GoGuides, do a site search on them. I feel that they have limited current value but the potential to be more useful in the future.

Do not forget specialized directories, either regional or topical (or both) depending on your site.
